A Self-Care Mindset That Will Stick
“The moments we overlook are often the ones that sustain us.”
Happy Thursday,
When people think about self-care, they often imagine adding something new to their lives. More routines. More structure. More time set aside.
But lasting self-care rarely begins by adding more. It often begins by noticing the ways we are already caring for ourselves throughout the day. When awareness grows, appreciation grows. And when appreciation grows, the foundation for a self-care mindset becomes much easier to sustain.
This week’s Happiness Note explores how a simple shift in awareness can help self-care feel natural, steady, and sustainable
This week’s topic and inspiration come from my article: “Adopting A Self-Care Mindset That Will Stick.”
💛 Remember the Good
Self-care often begins with awareness. Many of the things we do every day already qualify as caring for ourselves, but we rarely stop to recognize them.
Brushing your teeth, feeding your body, moving your body, or tucking yourself in at night to rest are all forms of self-care. When we take time to notice these everyday actions, we begin to appreciate the care we are already giving ourselves.
Making a list of the things you do regularly and the things you love to do can help create a clearer picture of your current self-care practice. Awareness is power.
Tip for Remembering the Good
Reflection: Take a moment to list a few things you already do each day that help care for yourself.
As you build this awareness, you may notice that your self-care practice is already stronger than you realized.
Reflect a Little Deeper:
What are a few everyday actions that support your well-being?
🌿 Feel Your Best
Appreciating the moment is one of the most powerful parts of building a lasting self-care mindset.
Many people believe they never have time for themselves, but often the real issue is that the moments pass without being noticed. When we slow down enough to recognize them, the experience of self-care becomes much stronger.
One simple practice is to quietly say to yourself, “This is a gift for you, from me.” This small shift in awareness can help you savor the moments that already exist in your day.
Tip to Feel Your Best
Reflection: During one everyday moment today, pause and remind yourself that it is a gift you are giving to yourself.
The more we focus on these moments, the more they become part of our lived experience.
Reflect a Little Deeper:
When was the last time you paused long enough to appreciate a small moment in your day?
🔄 Reset as Needed
A regular check-in with yourself helps your self-care practice stay honest and supportive.
This check-in is an opportunity to notice what is working well and where you might want to make adjustments. Perhaps you are exercising regularly but staying up too late. Or maybe you have had a lot of social time and feel ready to scale things back.
The purpose of the check-in is not to criticize yourself. It is to grow awareness, listen to your intuition, and make course corrections that help you stay strong and balanced.
Tip for a Reset
Reflection: Take a moment to ask yourself what is working well for you right now and what might need a small adjustment.
Checking in regularly can help you stay connected to the path that feels best for you.
Reflect a Little Deeper:
What is one small change that could support you right now?
